Two blog posts in three days, it's like waiting for a bus here, none at all then lots at once.
Anyway, here I am again. This week, Carl and Rosemary from Westhill Alpacas visited us to carry out a single cria shear. Poor little Moody Blue was finding the heat, he was born at the beginning of March, by next May he would have been over heated, so we decided to shear him on welfare grounds.
Carl and Rosemary did a lovely job, here he is looking all semi-naked. We left some legs on to keep his little tummy warm when he lays in the cush. Look at his tail, plenty of crimp left ;o))
I have news of 5 of last years female cria, they have been inducted into the Wellground Core Breeding Herd.
These are in addition to the two older females we bought earlier in the spring, EP Cambridge Primabelle and Pirouette (these are 2 EP Cambridge Peruvian Spartacus daughters). So effectively we have added 7 females to our core herd this year, that's quite a leap up in numbers for us. We may decide to release one of the existing Core Herd members later, but that has yet to be decided. Having experienced an increase in demand for 'elite' alpaca genetics this year, we have decided to expand a little.
So, here are the 5 new young ladies that will feature in our breeding programme.

It was a pleasure, Rob - particularly with Eagle Eyed Les directing operations! And a lovely protective mother the alpaca was!
ReplyDeleteWhoops, did I forget to mention Moody Blue's Mum spitting at you both to protect her son. Sorry about that, she is an angel really ;o))
